"My experience has proved that progression is there if you want it."

I started off in Prepared at a factory where Branston was running two lines.

After a while as a senior QA, and in an admin role, I moved to Branston’s newly built Prepared foods factory in 2009 as an Area Leader, looking after all aspects at the end of the line such as despatch and packing. I then went on to a role as stand-in Shift Manager and after a year, Shift Manager.

I moved into Human Resources and studied for a Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development qualification while working as a HR Officer. Being familiar with the people and the workings of the factory was really useful for the HR role too, but I was soon ready to get back into the factory environment.

My next step up was to move into an Operations Manager role, covering the whole Fresh factory and its 450 employees.

Then in May 2022 I transferred back over to the Prepared factory, as Operations Manager, to assist the management team with some very ambitious plans for growth and development.

My experience has really proved how much can come out of a job. Within the food industry, it’s not all about packing and mundane tasks – but it’s good to start there because you get an understanding of the whole process, which can then be applied to decision-making further along the line.

I’m now the Factory Operations Manager, and I’m excited to be involved in the next stage of growth for our Prepared foods factory.
