Robert Howard
EM Howard Ltd, Nocton. Approx 1,700 acres and some contracting.
Robert is the son of Branston Chairman Chris Howard. Ten years ago Robert left behind his banking career in the City and went into farming, the long-standing family business.
“I have to say that working in farming is nothing like working in the City… there’s less travelling and I’m my own boss!"
“About 10% of my crop is potatoes; I also grow sugar beet, barley and wheat. Business has been up and down, particularly on the potato side, and I think, with all the changes in farming, it’s impossible to tell what will happen in the future. But I am confident that we’ll always be able to think of something to keep us going. You just need to keep on top of change and make sure everyone in the business is on board."
“Obviously, with the family connection, the farm has been with Branston since the beginning. It’s a useful relationship – we all learn from each other as we go along. I think the whole Branston package comes together really well and the agronomy service is particularly good.”
