Barry Hathway

Broome Hill Farm, 300 acres
Pembroke, South West Wales

Barry was born and bred on Broome Hill Farm in Pembroke, where his family has been farming since 1952.

He and his brother Brian grow a mixture of crops, including about 35 acres of Premier and Lady Christl potatoes, winter cauliflower, carrots, parsnip and swede, along with grass, maize and fodder beet.

“Business has been fairly steady over the past few years, and despite rising costs we’ve managed to hang on. In fact this year has seen a slight improvement because there’s been less competition around.

“I joined a Branston Producer Group about 3 years ago and I like the support it gives me. The agronomy service is particularly useful, and the team are always there when you need them.

“I feel positive about the future but of course, it’s my challenge to continue to produce the quality produce that Branston wants.”
