Flexibility and sustainability

Focusing on a low carbon = low cost strategy, our development team investigated a wide range of technologies for our new prepared foods factory. We invested in the features that would provide long-term benefits, financially and environmentally.

Natural resources are utilised efficiently, including water drawn from a borehole next to the building, warm air recycled from chiller units and a biomass boiler fuelled by waste wood.

The factory has been designed to run free of external utilities. From Summer 2010 it will use electricity from our anaerobic digestion plant, which will convert outgrade potatoes and vegetables into a clean, efficient power supply.
