NCS teams are hard at work in the local community

Branston is continuing its sponsorship of the National Citizen Service (NCS) this year by providing funding towards three of the social action projects in the Lincoln area. The young people on the NCS scheme have been working hard to raise money to support their project and their chosen charities – Make a Wish and the St John Care Trust. They’ve also managed to get support from other local businesses, with discounts on materials and donations. This week is the culmination of the four-week programme for two of the groups where they complete a project to benefit their local community.

The Branston village group has been working at Woodview Nursing home to improve the home’s outdoor courtyard area. They’ve been weeding, repairing and repainting planters adding lights and hanging baskets and replacing some of the paving to make the area more wheelchair-friendly.

The Wellingore village group has been tidying up the Millfield recreation area just off Grantham Road.  They’ve cleared the wooded area and created a pathway to make it more accessible to the local community. They’ve also created new planting areas and the highlight of the project will take place on Friday 18th July when they are inviting local people to come along to a garden party. There will be food, drink, fun and games for children as well as the opportunity to buy plants.

It’s great to see these young people making such an effort to help out. NCS brings young people together from different backgrounds to work together and teaches them what it means to be responsible and contribute to their communities. For more information about NCS please visit www.ncsyes.co.uk.
