Branston is showing its support for sport and has sponsored the Sports Volunteer of the Year award at the prestigious Lincolnshire Sports Awards 2012.

With 16 award categories featuring sportsmen and women, clubs, coaches, volunteers and more, the Lincolnshire Sports Awards recognise and celebrate sporting achievement across the county over the last 12 months.

The awards ceremony, held at the Lincolnshire Events Centre, is an annual event encouraging members of the public across the county to nominate friends, family and colleagues for the esteemed awards.

This year, nominations included Olympic hockey player Georgie Twigg, Paralympic wheelchair racing athlete Jamie Carter, England cricket international Arran Brindle and a host of other elite athletes from across Lincolnshire.

Branston sponsored the acclaimed Sports Volunteer of the Year award which was awarded to Ann Boulton, who was regonised for her outstanding contribution to sport.

Ann has been a volunteer in Lincolnshire cricket for 23 years, giving her time to collect results, produce league tables and write articles for the Lincolnshire Echo. Ann has also been involved with the ECB Premier League since their inception and currently holds the combined roles of secretary and fixture secretary. For the past seven years, Ann has been the Secretary of the South Lincolnshire & Border League.

Simon Telfer, HR & logistics director at Branston, said: "Branston has a long standing relationship with the Lincolnshire Sports Awards and I'm delighted we have been involved again by sponsoring such a commendable award. Ann Boulton is a truly dedicated volunteer and works unselfishly to make sure those playing cricket are well supported.

"As a business, we know it's important to also be a good neighbour and to help out local worthy causes. Sponsoring this event helps to celebrate the sporting endeavors of people of all ages and abilities and provides an opportunity to thank many of the volunteers who give their time to provide activities for local people.

Janet Inman, chief executive at Lincolnshire Sports, said: "We are delighted that Branston Ltd is sponsoring the Sports Volunteer of the Year award. Volunteering is such a crucial part of making sport happen and it is important to celebrate and recognise the hard work and dedication put in by volunteers behind the scenes. Branston is a long term partner of Lincolnshire Sports Partnership and our programmes and we thank them for their continued support."
