Healthy eating
Virtually fat free
We don’t always think of potatoes as a healthy food but they are, and they’re a vital part of our diets. Staying healthy is all about getting the balance right between carbohydrates, fat, protein, fibre and vitamins and minerals. Too little protein can interfere with growth and other body functions, while too much fat can lead to obesity and heart disease.
Nutritionists recommend that about a third of our diet should be made up of starchy foods like potatoes, bread and cereals.
Carbohydrate in these starchy foods is an essential fuel for our entire metabolism. Potatoes are brilliant (well, we would say that!) because they’re an easily digestible source of carbohydrate. And, compared with other carbohydrates, potatoes are great because they give you extra vital vitamins and minerals – and virtually no fat. Fantastic!
