A centre of excellence for new and salad potato production
Direct links to the West Country, south coast and Wales mean our South West operation can provide a year-round supply of some of the finest potatoes in the country. And because the site sits at the heart of the new potato growing area, when sales are at their highest, between May and September, production here goes into overdrive.
In the last 3 years we’ve invested £3 million in the site, and it’s now operating more efficiently and effectively than ever, with:
- A £270k project to install two new Herbert barrel washers, increasing site capacity and flexibility
- 11,120 tonnes of on-site cold storage and a further 2,500 tonnes off site which we control and manage
- A total of 7 production lines, including 2 lines dedicated to salad potato packing and capable of handling 90,000 tonnes per year
- 140 staff working a 2-shift pattern
- A new Odenberg Vision Grader, which automatically rejects any defective potatoes
- Conversion of the salad packaging equipment to the latest high-speed machines capable of packing 100 bags/minute
- Upgraded washing and grading line costing £250k capable of 24 tons/hr throughput
- Despatch and topstore chilling for better handling of raw material and finished product prior to despatch
- 3 new boreholes drilled and now operational to supplement the existing borehole and improve the availability of water to site
